Biography
The 2008-2009 season proved full of opportunity for soprano Stacey Weber, who has been praised for her “clarity” and “silvery tone.” The native Houstonian was delighted to have made her debuts with Sugar Land Opera as Miss Silverpeal in Mozart’s Impresario and Lone Star Lyric as Zerbina in Pergolesi’s Maid to Mistress. She was also a finalist in the Fielder Grant for Career Advancement Competition sponsored by the Wednesday Morning Musical Club of Austin and a semi-finalist in the Lois Alba Aria Competition in Houston. She appeared as Pamina (The Magic Flute) in a concert performance presented by the Sound Singing Institute and performed opera scenes at several Houston Heights Chamber of Commerce events as an ambassador for Opera in the Heights. This coming season also holds much promise as Ms. Weber makes her debut onstage with Opera in the Heights as Pousette in Manon.
Last season Ms. Weber performed the role of Angelica in Handel’s Orlando and appeared as Ännchen (Der Freischütz) with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute in San Francisco, California. She was invited to present a joint recital entitled “An Evening of Opera and Art Song” in Georgetown, Texas and was received with great enthusiasm.
Ms. Weber earned her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance, magna cum laude, from Baylor University. While at Baylor, Ms. Weber appeared as Madame Goldentrill (The Impresario), Naiad (Ariande auf Naxos), Sarah (The Ballad of Baby Doe), and the First Lady (Die Zauberflöte). In addition, she performed the roles of the Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors) and Daisy Mae (Lil’ Abner) in Houston. Ms. Weber furthered her study of performance techniques at the OperaWorks Summer Intensive Program in Los Angeles, California.
In her concert and oratorio pursuits, Ms. Weber recently collaborated with Zephyr Ensemble in conjunction with Opera Vista to present Arvo Pärt’s Stabat Mater for their 2009 Festival. For a year she served as staff soprano soloist for St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston, where she was featured in excerpts of Brahms’ Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Requiem. Ms. Weber has also had the pleasure of singing with the Houston Symphony Chorus, Mercury Baroque, and as a guest soprano with the University of Houston Choral Artists.
Past awards include First Place in the Texas Music Teachers Association Vocal Competition and Third Place in the Texoma Regional NATS Auditions. For two consecutive years she was the winner of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston Vocal Scholarship Competition.
Ms. Weber currently resides in the Houston Heights with her husband Morgan. She also maintains an active career as a freelance harpist and harp instructor to a studio of 13 aspiring harpists in the Clear Lake area. Click here to view Stacey’s harp website
